Learning from Our children

Image
Photo: By Rdne    Learning from Our children By Vinay Thakur As parents, we often see ourselves as teachers, guiding our children through life with the knowledge and wisdom we’ve gathered over the years. And while that responsibility is real, it’s only half the story. The truth is, our children have just as much to teach us if we’re willing to pause, listen, and learn.  Most of us grew up in a very different world. The environment, the values, and the social norms of our era shaped how we think, behave, and judge right from wrong. But the world isn’t static. It evolves constantly, sometimes slowly over generations, and other times so rapidly that a few short years bring transformative change. As parents, it’s worth asking ourselves: are we preparing our children for the world as it is, or for a world that only exists in our memories?  This is where our children become our teachers.  I can speak from personal experience about the power of listening to my kids. My...

The power of a positive mindset

Image
The power of a positive mindset By Enjeesa Rai Just imagine a glass half filled with water. What do you see? Is it half full or half empty? It simply depends on our perception. A person with a positive mindset sees it half full, while a person with a negative mindset sees it half empty. In reality, both are right.   That encompasses the essence of life. From the moment we are born, life becomes a battle, a struggle for everyone. I will not deny some people are born into easier circumstances, usually referred to as being born with a silver spoon. However, life is never about comparing yourself with others; it’s about how to make your own life better. How to make yourself a better person and how you grow as a person.   In today’s life, filled with so much pressure and responsibilities, deception, and harm, I know it’s hard to maintain positivity within you. Even I struggle with it at times; however, I remember this quote, “Losing is easy, winning takes bravery,” which say...

Are there witches in this world?

Image
Due to illiteracy and superstition, many women are blamed for being witches in the country. Photo: The Kathmandu Post (right) and Nepalkhabar.com (right)    Are there witches in this world? By Chhabi Subedi This world is full of grievances, sorrows, and conflicts. Trouble awaits at every single step to test the tolerance of humankind. It seems that there is no end of miseries. Nevertheless, to end such miseries and develop the nation, more efforts are required. Without such efforts, no development can ever be conceivable.  When we discuss sorrow, joy, happiness, problems, and even development, the presence of a woman is always there. A woman does play several roles so that a society functions smoothly. However, it is extremely unpleasant to see the women of our society sidelined, beaten, and humiliated.  Over the years, Nepal has made tremendous progress in the fields of education, communication, and transportation. Still, the mindsets of many people are backward...

Assault on Mother Nature

Image
Assault on Mother Nature By Chhabi Subedi Oh, my dear mother. Being a 72-year-old man and still carrying a frail body all along, but my love for you has not died down at all. However, thank you very much for sustaining our lives with utmost grace and abundance. In contrast, your children exploit you, pollute you, and hurt you the most, but you endure most of their misconduct. You seem unhappy, and your face is pale and solemn. I call you repeatedly, but still you don’t respond. It has made me anxious, my dear Mother Nature.  Our mother nature is weeping profusely, and tears roll down from her cheeks unabatedly. Dear mother, you look weak, and your body is in poor health. On top of that, natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, infernos, hurricanes, and famines have inflicted much pain on you.  I can’t overlook or ignore the agony of my mother nature anymore. I am forced to make my own observation to understand the pain and anguish of my mother. I found that Mo...

I'm the richest person in the world

Image
I am the richest person in the world By Chhabi Subedi, Vijayee My mind is abuzz with all kinds of questions. I put every possible effort into finding their answers within my best capacity. Let me begin with a humble lesson of life that I would like to share with my esteemed readers.  First thing first, I should immediately stop blaming others for all the awful things they are doing to me. I might sound crazy at first, but yes, one should stop blaming others. Once you stop blaming others, things will start happening differently. Stopping to blame others is the panacea for all troubles in life. Believe me, I am not exaggerating at all.  Sometimes, I ask myself what the purpose of my birth on this earth is. Why, particularly this beautiful country, Nepal? I just ask myself. How long am I destined to live, eat, and work? When the end of this life is dead sure, I am aware of my final journey—the path to heaven.  I strive hard to find the answers to these questions...

WAR AND ITS IMPACTS ON LITERATURE

Image
WAR AND ITS IMPACTS ON LITERATURE LB Thapa When I’m writing this article, the world is already on the brink of yet another world war. A bloody war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on since 2022. And unfortunately, it shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. Uncountable lives have already been lost on both sides and still, they are killing each other relentlessly.  When the world had already suffered a lot due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, things have further turned bad to worse with yet another war between Israel and Hamas jihadists. This war, as such, can further escalate at any moment. The war between Israel and Hamas is more religious than economic, and therefore its impact and implications can be more devastating. The countries of military strength are already divided into two factions. And they can begin yet another bloody war at any moment.  Literature has always suffered heavily from wars, whether it is a civil war or when a country is at war w...

READING CULTURE IN NEPAL

Image
READING CULTURE IN NEPAL LB Thapa Since time immemorial, books have been the most trusted source of knowledge. Moreover, books give flight to the creative imagination, and regular book reading can positively affect a person's personality. Book reading inspires, educates, and transforms people's lives. History is replete with examples where great readers became great thinkers, philosophers, and writers. In brief, it can be said that a regular reading habit works as a tonic for the human brain.  Regular readers don’t only accumulate more knowledge but also become much wiser, more knowledgeable, and more successful in their personal and professional lives.  READING CULTURE IN NEPALI SOCIETY There may be a common curiosity among people about where Nepali society stands as far as reading culture is concerned. Well, the answer is rather depressing. The fact is that Nepali society has never had a reading culture. From the early times until now, Nepali people have not b...

RENEWAL OF ANCIENT SCIENCE

Image
RENEWAL OF ANCIENT SCIENCE By Chhabi Subedi Vijayee At different times, intellectual people have been born in different parts of the world. And these intellectual people are the common property of the world. A conspicuous effect is always felt at the birth of an intellectual person. No national boundaries can confine them, as they are the common property of the world.   This does not mean that Mother Nepal has not given birth to such intellectuals in the country. Many intellectuals are known and revered, but at the same time, several other intellectuals in the country lived in oblivion. Now the time has come to bring them before us, so the world should know about them and their contributions to the country.   The importance of the English language is known around the world. It is a fact that to get international attention, one has to pass through the scanner of the English language. Otherwise, a possible success without the help of the English language, if not impossible, is c...
